COVID-19 THRU BIDEN — THE BEST OF TIMES?
Charles Dickens’s Tale of Two Cities begins with the words, “ 'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” A better summary of modern American would be hard to find. We have experienced the "worst of times” — times temporarily terrible and tragic. The Great Depression and our times of war are examples. But these times were followed by some of “the best of times” in our history. We may be seeing this happening again.
The era of Covid-19, the 2020 fraudulent presidential election. the Biden administration, and the woke movement have represented, at just about every level, the "worst of times” in our history. But these “worst of times” may well be ushering in some of the "best of times." Why? Because people have realized or been reminded of how little man can be trusted and how much God can and should be trusted.
The Covid-19 thru Biden years have revealed, as never before, how deceitful, devious, dangerous deranged and demonically-driven people in authority and the so-called “experts” in any and every area can be. These years have underscored the Truth that, “It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man” (Ps. 118:8).
The big, takeaway lesson is that men can be trusted only to the degree that what they say or do can pass the litmus test of God’s Word, the final authority for who and what is good or bad or right or wrong. The "best of times" come out of the "worst of times" whenever people learn to put confidence in the all-knowing, all-powerful, ever-present God of the Bible rather than in their own or anybody else's personal prowess or power of intellect; when they learn that Presidents, politicians, preachers, parents or pals are liable, if not likely, to fail them: "Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide” (Micah 7:5). See also, Isa. 2:22 and Jer. 17:5.
“The best of men are only men at best.” This includes President-elect Donald Trump. I think he, more than any other President in modern times, has proven that he means well, is competent and can be trusted. I’m thankful for his reelection, and I hope he is used of God to bring about a positive turnaround in America. But he is “not as our Rock;” God alone is. “The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower” (Deut. 32:31; Ps. 18:2).
The Covid-19 thru Biden years, the current presidential pardons and other attempts to sabotage the incoming administration, and hurt and punish the voting public will work for our good. All this has enabled us to go into the New Year better informed and reminded of the inherent weakness and potential for wickedness, of those in authority, and of our need to pray for them (2 Tim. 1-4). The past several years have given us occasion and opportunity to be thankful for The undeserved "space to repent" God has given to churches and to our country (Rev. 2:21;1 Pet. 4:12; 2 Chron. 7:14). The "worst of times" will translate into the best of times just to the degree that all this is understood and acted upon.
